Southwest Austin has always felt a little different from the center of the city.
The roads begin to curve, limestone and mature oaks take over the landscape, neighborhoods have more breathing room, and family life settles into a rhythm built around schools, parks, sports, trails, and years spent in the same community.
For the families I photograph here, portraits are often less about documenting one event and more about preserving the stages that quietly turn into family history.

Depending on the session, your experience can include wardrobe planning, access to my curated client wardrobe, professional hair and makeup, and detailed posing and facial expression coaching.
I pay attention to posture, hands, body angles, expression, and connection so you are not trying to direct the photograph while also being part of it.

A family portrait can be beautifully composed without looking overly formal.
I guide the structure carefully, from posture and placement to hands and facial expression, while still leaving room for the relationships that make the photograph yours.
Children do not need to perform perfectly. Some are immediately comfortable. Some need more time. Some have absolutely no interest in the plan their parents had in mind.
I work with the family that arrives rather than trying to force everyone into the same formula.
The finished portraits should feel polished enough to become artwork while still showing the personalities and connections you recognize every day.

Life Around Southwest Austin
Southwest Austin covers a broad collection of established neighborhoods rather than one single residential area. Circle C Ranch, Shady Hollow, Oak Hill, Legend Oaks, Maple Run, Sendera, and the communities around Brodie Lane, Slaughter Lane, Convict Hill Road, and Escarpment Boulevard each have their own character while sharing a distinctly Southwest Austin feel.
The City of Austin describes this part of the city as the place where Hill Country landscape meets established neighborhoods, with Oak Hill and Circle C Ranch among the communities most closely associated with the area.
Parks and trails are a major part of daily life here. Circle C Ranch Metropolitan Park alone spans roughly 590 acres and includes trails, sports fields, courts, playground areas, and disc golf.
Dick Nichols District Park is another familiar Southwest Austin gathering place, while the Violet Crown Trail connects through both Dick Nichols and Circle C. The larger trail system is being developed to eventually stretch about 30 miles from the Barton Creek Greenbelt south into Hays County.
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Barton Creek Greenbelt access, and the transition toward Oak Hill add to the sense that nature is woven into this part of Austin rather than sitting somewhere outside it.
That combination of established neighborhoods, outdoor space, and families who often remain in the area through several stages of their children’s lives makes Southwest Austin particularly well suited to long-term family portraiture.
The years that feel ordinary while you are living them rarely feel ordinary once they are gone.

Pregnancy is one of the first moments when you can actually see a family changing.
My maternity portrait sessions are designed so you do not need to know how to pose your changing body, which wardrobe photographs beautifully, or how to create an expression that feels natural in front of the camera.
I guide wardrobe, posture, movement, hands, body position, and facial expression throughout the session. Professional hair and makeup and access to my curated client wardrobe can also be incorporated into the experience.
Partners and children are welcome when you want the portraits to reflect the family already waiting for this baby.

Southwest Austin Newborn Photography
The newborn stage is brief, even when the sleepless nights make it feel otherwise.
My newborn portrait experience is intentionally slower and carefully guided, with a strong emphasis on safe newborn posing and gentle handling.
I photograph babies individually as well as with parents and siblings when families want the portraits to document the entire family transition rather than only the baby.
Parents receive the same level of direction with hands, posture, body position, connection, and facial expression.

Southwest Austin Senior Portraits
For many Southwest Austin families, senior portraits are the moment family photography comes full circle.
The child whose early years were documented in family photographs is suddenly preparing to graduate.
Senior portraits should reflect who they are at this particular point in life rather than reduce them to a collection of poses everyone else receives.
I guide posing and expression carefully while incorporating wardrobe, interests, personality, and the level of polish that fits the senior in front of me.

Austin ISD and Southwest Austin Schools
Much of Southwest Austin is served by Austin Independent School District, but there is no single Southwest Austin attendance zone.
The area includes numerous elementary and middle school boundaries, and school assignments depend on the exact property address. Austin Parks planning documents reference AISD campuses throughout the Southwest planning area, including Small Middle School, Mills Elementary, Patton Elementary, Covington Middle School, Gorzycki Middle School, Boone Elementary, and Bowie High School.
Families should always confirm current attendance assignments directly through the district rather than relying on a neighborhood name, particularly as boundaries and enrollment patterns evolve.

I do not believe the most meaningful photograph from your session should remain buried in a digital gallery.
The portraits we create can become custom wall artwork, albums, and heirloom pieces designed to live visibly with your family.
A maternity portrait, newborn image, family photograph, and senior portrait may be created years apart, but together they eventually become a visual record of the life that happened in between.
That is why I think about what happens to the photographs after the session from the very beginning.
